About Us
The back story
Where the Willowbank name comes from: this name is carried forward in the legacy of a family figure rooted in Australian equine history. It was originally the name of a stunning thoroughbred breeding and training property owned by my great grandfather in the rolling hills of Lilydale, Victoria; George Thomas (Tim) Maughan was an esteemed horseman and accomplished equestrian, winning many titles including owner/trainer/jockey. He mixed with many of Australia's top names in both the racing and equestrian world alike, including huge influencers on our sport like the great Franz Mairinger and the Roycrofts.
Though the original property has since been sold and developed, the name lives on in my work re-training off the track horses and coaching the next generation, honoring a proud family tradition and lifelong passion for horses.
